Macon’s Planned New Arena: What It Means for Our Community
One of the things I love most about being a real estate agent in Macon is watching this city continue to grow and reinvent itself. Every new project, business opening, and neighborhood improvement adds to the quality of life we enjoy here, and the latest announcement is a big one. Plans for a major new venue are officially underway, and the impact will be felt throughout our community. Macon’s planned new arena is set to boost entertainment, tourism, and real estate values across Middle Georgia. Insights from Macon Realtor, Joanna “JoJo” Jones.

Plans are officially moving forward for a brand-new multipurpose arena in Macon-Bibb County. Barton Malow, in partnership with our own local Sheridan Construction, has been selected as the Construction Manager for the project. This new facility will eventually replace the current Macon Coliseum and is designed to become a modern centerpiece for entertainment, sports, and community events.
The planned venue will be built to host a wide range of events, including minor league hockey, basketball games, high school tournaments, concerts, conferences, and trade shows. It will include updated fan amenities, premium seating options like luxury suites and club areas, modern concessions, and advanced technology to create a top-tier experience for guests and performers alike.
Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2026, with completion anticipated in 2028. When finished, this arena will join other successful entertainment venues such as the Atrium Health Amphitheater and the renovated Macon City Auditorium—both of which helped bring more than 250,000 visitors to Macon in 2024 alone.
As someone who works in Macon real estate every day, I see firsthand how community growth influences the housing market. When a city invests in new attractions and amenities, it makes the entire area more desirable. Buyers feel more confident choosing Macon. Families see long-term potential. Sellers benefit from increased interest and stronger demand.

Sheridan Construction has deep roots in Macon, dating back to 1947, and was even involved in building the original coliseum decades ago. Their role in this new project feels like a proud continuation of Macon’s history and future. Partnering with Barton Malow, a nationally respected construction enterprise with more than 100 years of experience, gives the project even greater strength and credibility.
For those of us who call Macon home, this new arena represents more than a building. It represents confidence in our city’s future and a commitment to making Middle Georgia an even better place to live.
